The International and Interagency Affairs Office works closely with other agencies on the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources
Committee on Environment and Natural Resources committee and its Subcommittee on Global Change Research (SGCR) and Subcommittee on Natural Disaster Reduction Subcommittee on Natural Disaster Reduction (SNDR). One member of the staff supports
NESDIS/IA interests on the Data Management Working Group of the SGCR; another member is leading an effort to draft an internationally focused paper: "Living with Earth's Extremes: Building Global Coalitions to Reduce Disasters'' for the SNDR.

The Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Defense Meteorological Satellite Program is operated by NOAA for DOD to aid the US military in planning operations through strategic and tactical weather prediction. DOD participates together with NOAA and NASA in the
National Polar orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System National Polar Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System, an integrated approach to meet the needs of the civilian and military communities. This joint program operates under the
Integrated Program Office Integrated Program Office at NOAA, and will replace the current Defense Meteorological Satellite Program and NOAA polar missions with its first launch in 2008.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration       Contact: NESDIS IIA Office

NOAA works closely with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support a variety of U.S. Government environmental interests. NOAA and NASA work together to improve knowledge of environmental processes; to improve the observational capabilities of operational and research satellite systems; to improve the acquisition, processing, distribution, and use of environmental data and information; to improve the acquisition, processing, and distribution of search and rescue and environmental data collection systems; and to reduce the cost of new observational satellite systems.


NASA participates together with NOAA and DOD in NPOESS, an integrated approach to meet the future needs of the civilian and military user communities. This joint program operates under the Integrated Program Office at NOAA, and will replace the current Defense Meteorological Satellite Program and NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Satellite missions with its first satellite launch in 2010.
